Class of 23 is a mixed-media piece built on a base of balsa wood, created during a project focused on using limited materials to build dimensional, sculptural art. Gangwani began with a reference photo, then layered drafting foam to shape the form of an eagle. After sketching his lines, he carved directly into the surface, building up texture and depth through instinctive, hands-on methods.
The final piece resembles a weathered structure, something between a decaying monument and a graffiti-covered building. Inspired in part by places like the old Supreme store on Bowery, the work carries a dystopian feel. The goal was to create something raw, gritty, and almost forgotten, where the surfaces tell stories of time, wear, and rebellion.
